Marie Ann Hedonia (aka Modular Marie)

Marie Ann Hedonia (aka Modular Marie) Sound Designer/ Producer/ Vidiot / Visual artist is still in the beginnings of her music journey on a rock flying through space, but this is the story thus far.

As a child, Marie was encouraged to pursue various hobbies by her parents.  Seeing her talent as a visual artist from a young age her mother encouraged her to create in various ways. In fourth grade she began piano lessons and, although she wasn’t the best at practicing, she learned and retained the basics of Keyboard playing.

In high school the piano lessons stopped, and so did the interest in making music, until college when she snuck into an open rehearsal room to play piano. Feeling inspired and empowered she ordered a cheap keyboard and used it to reconnect to music making.

In 2016 she fell in love with a used Micro-Korg at a local music shop. Her husband, Eric, purchased the Native instruments Maschine software shortly after and they both enjoyed created music on the program.  In time their synth collection began to grow, and they out grew the DAW.

In 2018 they began working with hardware synths and drum machines to create music for the band “Operation Bingo”.  Eric sold a guitar to start their modular synth collection, and it’s continued to grow since then.  When the ARP 2600 was being rereleased by Korg, both knew they needed to try their best to get one of the limited run synths.  Their hopes were dashed when they found out all preorders slots had been filled, pretty much everywhere. That is until in the summer of 2020 when, Chuck Levin’s called to inform them that they had an extra and “you need to get it ASAP”.  Without hesitation they accepted the offer and the ARP was theirs.

Since then Marie has been working on solo music and on Paul and Marie’s Country Kitchen, a project made up of her and husband Eric.  She has played various virtual shows and hopes to play live in the near future.  She is also interested in exploring the connections between visual art and music through analog video synthesis.
