This year I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the generosity, excitement and participation shown by you – our amazing, multi-national community. As most of you are aware, we have been celebrating my father’s Centenary, and what a year it’s been! So far we have:

Hosted a resident at our ARPs for All space
Traveled a collective 8 time zones to participate in three museum exhibitions, two concerts and three historical lectures
Produced a short documentary about Alan R Pearlman’s life (thank you Chris Cardone!!!!)
Released a 36-track compilation featuring a electric spectrum of musicians using ARPs
Gave away a beautiful ARP ProSoloist to a lucky raffle winner

And we’re only halfway through the Centennial Year! We have an upcoming concert in a few weeks at synthCube, and we are preparing some surprises for you next year.

Pearlman Foundation will host an exclusive opening of the ARP@100 exhibition on the 100th anniversary of his birth, Saturday, June 7th. This fundraising event will take place at the Electronic Music Education and Preservation Project (EMEAPP) in their new Museum of Music Technology, showcasing the groundbreaking achievements of Pearlman and his legendary ARP Synthesizers.

Installation Exhibition, Open Studio and Artist Talk March 8th from 4-6pm at The Record Co in Boston, MA

ALAN R. PEARLMAN FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES INSTALLATION EXHIBITION, OPEN STUDIO and ARTIST TALK March 8th from 4-6pm AT THE RECORD CO., IN BOSTON, MA

KINGSTON, NY, FEBRUARY 24, 2024 – ARPs for All (the Alan R Pearlman Foundation in partnership with The Record Co.) will be hosting an open studio/installation exhibition and artists’ talk with our new Resident Gabriela Benavides. This will be the culmination of Gabriela’s week with the ARPs for All collection.

The event will be held at Boston’s TRC (the Record Co.), home of the first ‘ARPs for All’ initiative, on March 8, 2025. Visitors will be privy to an installation exhibit, open studio and artist talk. The space will open up at 4:00 pm, with the talk in Studio A of The Record Co. scheduled for 6:00 pm, and is free and open to the public, but will include a donor box and merch table to support the organizations.

About the Artist: Gabriela Benavides is a producer, composer, and sound designer with experience in Sound Design and music for linear and non-linear media, Audiovisual/Media Art, Videogame Audio Implementation, DSP and programming. She is a graduate of Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Electronic Production & Design and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at New York University, specializing in computational approaches to media art and spatial audio.

About the Foundation: The Alan R Pearlman Foundation continues its work with contributors, collaborators, vendors, manufacturers, venues, and synthesizer owners to provide musicians with access to vintage ARP synthesizers to explore the endless possibilities of electronic music. The Foundation relies on donors to continue its mission, and encourages everyone who understands the importance of music education to visit alanrpearlmanfoundation.org to learn more and pledge their support.

About The Record Co: TRC is a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to making space for Boston’s music makers. About Alan Howarth

Alan Howarth’s award–winning film work started on Star Trek–The Motion Picture, launching him as a sound designer for the following 6 Star Trek feature films. Next was “Escape From New York”, collaborating on music with director and composer, John Carpenter, and scoring for “Halloween sequels 2–6″, “Christine”, “Big Trouble in Little China”, “Prince of Darkness” and “They Live”. He has since composed music for over 50 films with his most current score of “From the Shadows” set to release in this fall of 2023. (read more on Alan’s website) Stick around after the Interview for a special Demonstration video with Alan discussing and makeing some of his sound-making techniques. Not to be missed! You’ll have time for a short break, then go right to the video!

The Alan R. Pearlman Foundation celebrated the birthday of its namesake and founder of ARP synthesizers, Alan R. Pearlman on June 7th.

As many of you know, our ARPchives LIVE! showcases a variety of both established AND emerging artists, innovators and experts, with rare synths, and demos. Our previous watch-party interviews included Tony Banks, Jean-Michel Jarre and vintage footage of Alan R Pearlman and ARP Instruments

On October 18th of 2022, Herbie Hancock sat down with d’ARP (Dina Pearlman-Ifil, daughter of Alan R Pearlman, the creator of ARP Synthesizers) and gracefully shared his time with her to discuss a myriad of subjects: from his early years of Crossings (Mwandishi Sextet) to the Head Hunters album, to sound tracks; from Civil Rights to Covid, to the state of the planet and the future generations of music. A wonderful glimpse of a creative giant who got his start in electronic music using ARP Synthesizers.

Alan R. Pearlman’s Birthday Lost ARP Tapes Premiere, and Fundraising Kick-Off

Today is my father’s birthday

Alan R. Pearlman would have been 97 today! Because he was born in 1925, he remembered the George Washington Bridge being built, the Great Depression, was a World War II vet.. he worked on the early NASA projects, saw the first person on the moon. And he built one of the most famous synthesizers in the world.

With celebrating my father’s birthday we also recognize our future—the kids who love their STEM classes, the musicians who have aspirations to make music, or the filmmakers who wish to make soundtracks.

This summer we are trying to raise a minimum of $15,000 for the following projects:

ARPs for ALL – insurance, restoration and repair of instruments
ARPchives including scanning, digitizing and licensing rights to rare photos. See also: Google’s Music Makers and Machines!
Our first residency at ARPs for ALL (estimated $10,000 for housing, transportation and engineering assistance)
Grantwriter(s)

We will also be holding our Fall Synthposium and Fundraiser 2022: A Fifty Year ARP Odyssey!

The Alan R. Pearlman Foundation Launches first ARPchives Exhibits with Google Arts & Culture!

Explore and learn about the history and legacy of electronic music through “Music, Makers & Machines”, a new interactive online project by Google Arts & Culture, in collaboration with The Alan R. Pearlman Foundation.

March 10th, 2021, 8:00am – Today, Google Arts & Culture launched “Music, Makers & Machines” – an interactive online resource highlighting the crucial role electronic music plays within wider culture, both past and present. Music, Makers & Machines is the result of a collaboration between The Alan R. Pearlman Foundation and over 50 archives, museums, collections, record labels, festivals and some of the music industry’s leading experts and pioneers from 15 countries, giving everyone an opportunity to explore, learn and appreciate the stories of electronic music.

In over 250 curated online exhibitions, Music, Makers & Machines hosts an extensive archive of over 15.000 photos, videos, 360° tours and 3D scans along with bespoke editorial features delving into scenes, sounds and iconic cities. Learn about the Music genres that grew into movements such as Detroit Techno, House and Gabber, meet the Makers like Honey Dijon, Bob Moog, Ellen Allien or Suzanne Ciani, explore iconic studios like the WDR Studio for Electronic Music, and check out legendary synthesizers and Machines in 3D. In addition, a dedicated AR experiment will enable you to play with five famous synthesizers.

The Alan R. Pearlman Foundation contributed seven stories to the intial launch, and plans on adding several more in the coming months.

Thanks to technology from Google Arts & Culture, we were able to access a variety of media.

Examples :

Hear the sounds: With the help of the worldwide library of YouTube, listen to how ARP influenced the sounds of the seventies (ARP in the 1970s)
Exhibition example: Finally, online visitors can discover more about the founder of ARP Instruments in the story; Alan R. Pearlman, Portrait of an Inventor.
3D content: With the help of a meticulously digitized 3D model of the ARP Odyssey created by SMEM, people will be able to inspect a technological treasure up close.
Play an ARP! Using AR (Augmented Reality) technology, play an ARP, Moog or other famous synths!

This is the first comprehensive overview of a music movement presented on Google Arts & Culture.

Happy New Year! End of 2020 Wrap-Up

We’ve come to the end of a truly weird and unpredictable year, which just so happens to have been the first full year of the Alan R. Pearlman Foundation’s existence. Despite this year of personal loss and global tragedy, we have persevered and are looking forward to 2021, as we are sure you are. We remain humbled and thankful for your donations throughout the year, which are still coming in as recently as today.

The first donations helped us create our website, enhanced our presence at our first NAMM show, and allowed us to create our ARPchive LIVE! sessions as well as our first Synthposium.

Your most recent donations are being used to fund our work on an exciting upcoming project for Google Arts and Culture, a video patchbook (you heard correctly!) and, most importantly, the soon-to-be-realized ARP for All, a collection of vintage and reissued ARP synthesizers for public use.

Part of our mission includes access to vintage synthesizers to anyone who might not have access to them. We’re discovering new and powerful ways to do this, and we can’t wait to tell you more about the projects and events we have planned for 2021. We are relying on your help to get these efforts underway, so as you wrap up your year-end charitable donations, please keep the Alan R. Pearlman Foundation in mind. You’ll be giving the gift of inspiration that could help disadvantaged musicians find their voice.
