SOUL OF THE MACHINE is a 36-track collection of tracks old and new, covering everything from innovative electronic, dance, and space music to jazz, funk, and Latin pop, all featuring the signature sounds of classic ARP instruments. The collection includes everything from ARP’s first synthesizer — the massively powerful ARP 2500 modular system — to the instruments that rewrote the rules on how electronics and music came together. The 2600, Odyssey, Pro Soloist, Omni, and many more ARP instruments sing, cry, scream, and soar, in the hands of musical talents both legends and newcomers.

Alexander, Neil:

Neil “Nail” Alexander is a versatile and accomplished musician based in Newburgh, New York, with over five decades of experience in performance, composition, and music technology. His career spans a wide array of genres, including jazz, rock, funk, blues, electronica, ambient, and contemporary classical music. He is particularly renowned for his work as a pianist, synthesist, and composer, leading several ensembles and collaborating with a diverse range of artists.

Dr. Tara Rodgers (Analog Tara) is a multi-instrumentalist composer, sound engineer, and historian of electronic music.

Baxley, Matt:

Matt Baxley, known worldwide as Moot Booxlé, is a Florida-based musician, producer, synthesist, and recording engineer known for his funky, retro style. He first came to prominence in the early days of YouTube, creating what is arguably the first “viral” video featuring a modular synthesizer. He continues to record and perform with various bands as well as his own solo projects. He is the chief engineer at Sound Check Studios in Fort Myers, FL, which has been in continuous operation in the same location under the same name and ownership since 1977.

Baron, David:

David Baron is an American record producer, film composer and sound engineer. He is known for his contribution to the chart-topping single Hallucinogenics by Matt Maeson and for producing Scared to Start by Michael Marcagi.

In 2008, Baron founded Sun Mountain Studios in Boiceville, New York, a state-of-the-art recording facility featuring a collection of vintage analog synthesizers and recording equipment.

Bella Donna, Lisa:

Lisa Bella Donna is an internationally acclaimed recording artist, composer, modular synthesist, sound designer, educator, and clinician. She has decades of experience as a multi-instrumentalist session musician, educator, as well as developing extensive techniques with musique concreté, modular synthesis, analog recording & mixing techniques, microtonal music, orchestration & film composition.

Benavides, Gabriella:

Gabriela (b. 2000, Quito, Ecuador) is an interdisciplinary artist, sound designer and creative technologist working in composition, sound design (for linear and non-linear media), sound art, installation & media art. They are a Berklee College of Music graduate with a B.M in Electronic Production & Design and pursing a M.M in Music Technology at NYU.

Throughout their undergraduate studies she participated in various performances as an accomplished pianist, keyboardist and synthesist, specialising in contemporary styles like jazz, fusion and ambient; additionally she has performed in notable venues such as the Metropolitan Theatre, Medellin, Teatro Libre, Bogotá, the Berklee Performance Centre and The Loft @ Berklee (United States) and played events like the ARP 2600 Symposium alongside artists like Herbie Hancock and Jean Michelle Jarre.

Brueckner, Michael:

Born 1969 in Heidelberg, Germany, Michael Brueckner started his journey into electronic music in 1992. So far, he has released more than 150 albums, both via his own Bandcamp page and on labels like Syngate, Cyclical Dreams, Aural Films or Klangwirkstoff. Michael is co-founder and member of the duo / trio projects Bridge to Imla, P’Faun and La Mansarde Hermétique. Now and then, he’s performing live at smaller European electronic music festivals, in art galleries or self-organized concerts. Michael has also collaborated with quite a lot of different artists, including Robert, Rich, Mathias Grassow, Markus Reuter, Forrest Fang, Hollan Holmes and others.

Carin, Jon:

Jon Carin is a multi-instrumentalist (keyboards, guitar, lap steel, bass, drums, and programming), singer, writer, and producer. He has been part of the Pink Floyd family for 40 years, recording and producing with them on all of their albums of those years, including A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Division Bell, Delicate Sound of Thunder, Pulse etc.
He co-wrote the Pink Floyd hit “Learning To Fly.” He has worked with Roger Waters and David Gilmour for solo tours and albums, as well as together for the Live 8 concert in 2005.

Jon has taken part in all of Roger Waters’ groundbreaking world tours – In The Flesh, The Dark Side of the Moon, The Wall, US + THEM as well as performances at Desert Trip, numerous charity events, and recently, THIS IS NOT A DRILL., as well as his Lockdown Sessions and Dark Side Redux albums & all live albums.

Jon also has a long history working with The Who and Pete Townshend (having produced albums and toured with Pete), Eddie Vedder, Bryan Ferry, Psychedelic Furs, Martha Wainwright, Dream Academy, Soul Asylum and many others.
He produced and co-wrote Richard Butler of the Psychedelic Furs’ critically acclaimed eponymous solo album.
Jon also performed as part of a 22-date residency with Kate Bush at London’s Hammersmith Apollo, her first concerts since 1979, titled Before The Dawn. He has proudly used ARP synthesizers as an essential part of his musical palette since the 1970’s.

Cirocco, Philip:

National Razor was founded in 1989. The four-member electronic industrial band released several successful CDs for Silent Scream Records. National Razor’s debut was on the Silent Scream Records compilation CD “Undercurrent” in 1992. Subsequent releases included “Stem of Thorns” in 1993 and “Shiver” in 1994. National Razor used the ARP 2600 extensively in many of their recordings along with digital sampling. Their live show featured vast electronic sound paintings that audiences of that genre were not typically exposed to in live performances. National Razor used synthesizers and samplers that were sequenced live on stage, permitting them to change the sound and arrangements at will, while most other bands were using prerecorded tapes for the backing electronics and samples. This left room for improvisation and spontaneity.

DJ CherishTheLuv:

DJ CherishTheLuv, notably the first woman ever to DJ on Broadway, is a Fil-Am NYC-born Broadway Producer, Host, Author, Composer for Netflix, and has performed alongside countless music legends. Dubbed “Music Missionary” on HuffPost, her mission is to help people express themselves, via words, art, movement and sound.
Her recent work includes being the first Artist in Residence for ARP Alan R. Pearlman Foundation, co-producing David Byrne and Fatboy Slim’s HERE LIES LOVE, and performing as DJ Artist in Residence at Lincoln Center, Apple, Netflix, and for the MTV Video Music Awards. Cherish is currently scoring a film using only the sounds of a cancer patient’s MRI as her synths.

When obtained two Arp 2500 portable wing cabinets in 1988 started a long-life deep involvement into analog/hybrid sound synthesis and processing. Teaching at Music Technology Hilversum for 15 years. Familiar, Bob:

Bob Familiar has been involved in the Boston music scene since the early 80’s as synthesist for bands such as The Dark, November Group, and Death in Venice. Bob is an innovative musician and composer known for his unique blend of electronic and orchestral music. His work has been inspired by a range of literary sources, including the acclaimed “Three Body Problem” by Cixin Liu and “Klara and the Sun” by Kazuo Ishiguro, showcasing his ability to weave complex narratives into his compositions. Bob’s music often explores the intersection of technology and art, utilizing both traditional instruments and cutting-edge digital tools to create immersive soundscapes. His performances are noted for their dynamic improvisation, often incorporating live looping and sound manipulation techniques.

Foxx, John:

John Foxx’s Ultravox released three forward-looking albums mixing glam, punk and electronics in the late 70s, culminating with their 1978 album, ‘Systems Of Romance’ which was produced by Conny Plank in Germany. Foxx’s debut solo album ‘Metamatic’, arrived in January 1980, launching the new decade with frozen, minimalist electronic songs including the classic ‘Underpass’ single. Further solo albums such as ‘The Garden’ and ‘The Golden Section’ signaled an increasingly psychedelic, lush, romantic sound before Foxx disappeared from the public eye to focus on visual art, including many commissions for book covers by the likes of Salman Rushdie and Jeanette Winterson.

He fully returned to music in the late ‘90s and has been an ever present force since then, releasing solo albums, creating John Foxx And The Maths – a new group of analogue synthesizer rock with fellow artists Benge – and exploring the edges of contemporary ambient music with a series of albums including the Cathedral Oceans trilogy, collaborations with Harold Budd and Robin Guthrie (Cocteau Twins) and his own solo piano albums, the latest of which ‘Wherever You Are’ he released earlier this year. Meanwhile he’s also continues to explore visual art with exhibitions in the UK, USA and Europe and a book, ‘Electricity And Ghosts: The Visual Art Of John Foxx’ which was published in 2024. Foxx’s first collection of short stories, ‘The Quiet Man’ also appeared in 2020.

Gore, Martin:

Martin Gore is a songwriter, musician, and producer best known as a founding member and one of the primary creative forces behind Depeche Mode, one of the most successful electronic bands of all time, with over 100 million records sold and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Beyond the band, Gore has developed a distinct solo identity, delving into darker, more experimental sounds. His most recent solo release, the 2021 instrumental EP “The Third Chimpanzee”, received critical acclaim for its sharp, industrial edge and layered production. With a unique aesthetic and a body of work that spans decades, Gore continues to shape and influence the sound of rock, modern electronic, alternative music, and countless other genres.

Hale, Beto:

Producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist Beto Hale was born in Mexico City and has lived in LA for the last 18 years. A graduate of Berklee College of Music in Boston and the Lamont School of Music in Denver, he owns Los Olivos Recording Studios, where he has participated in Latin Grammy-nominated albums and has recorded a wide variety of projects including major film scores. He releases music in Spanish and English under his own name and produces many independent artists. Beto has been playing synthesizers since his early days in Mexico. He now owns an extensive collection of iconic vintage analog synths.

Isham, Mark:

Mark Isham is an electronic music innovator, jazz artist and prolific film composer. Isham’s ability to create unforgettable melodies, combined with his willingness to experiment with innovative musical palettes, has earned him accolades including Grammy and Emmy awards, and Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.
Isham’s inimitable musical voice is evident in his memorable scores for award-winning features including the Oscar-winning Judas and the Black Messiah, Crash and A River Runs Through It (Oscar nomination) along with Golden Globe winning Bobby, and Nell (Golden Globe nomination). For The Black Dahlia, Isham was awarded “Best Score” by the International Film Music Critics Association.
He has collaborated with top directors and artists including Shaka King, Lynn Shelton, Swizz Beatz, Jodie Foster, George Tillman, Robert Redford, Forest Whitaker, Tom Cruise, Brian De Palma, Chick Corea, Robert Altman, Sting, Will.i.am, Sidney Lumet, and Mick Jagger.
Most recently, Isham has scored the fourth season of EPIX series The Godfather of Harlem and Hulu’s limited series Little Fires Everywhere, for which he garnered his sixth Emmy nomination. Other recent projects include Bill and Ted Face the Music, the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent and Shooting Stars.

Klauss:

The Argentine project Klauss is made up of Ernesto Romeo, Lucas Romeo and Pablo Gil. Founded in 1988, it explores the expressive possibilities of the different languages of contemporary electronic, electroacoustic and progressive music, combining minimalist and polymetric sequences, dance rhythms, impressionist harmonies, free forms, noise, atonalism and psychedelia.
Through real-time composition procedures, its sound aesthetics come to life in dreamlike environments, danceable rituals, acoustic landscapes, and symphonic textures.
Klauss’s concerts include impressive retro-futuristic sets made up of an unusual configuration of instruments and analog and digital electronic devices, modular and sequential systems that are deployed live.
They have performed concerts since 1991, in their native Argentina, and also in Germany, the USA, Spain, Chile, South Africa, Finland, Colombia, Uruguay, etc.

Mash, David:

David Mash is a guitarist, composer, producer, synthesist, author, educator and futurist. He retired in 2017 as Senior Vice President for Innovation, Strategy, and Technology at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he had worked for over 40 years. David was the founding chair of Berklee’s Music Synthesis Department (now known as Electronic Production and Design). David has collaborated on development and artistic projects with leaders in the multimedia and music industries such as Kodak, Adobe Systems, Digidesign/Avid, Opcode, Kurzweil, Yamaha, Roland, Korg, Fishman Transducers, Godin Guitars, and many others.

David is past International Chair for Electronic Music for the International Association of Jazz Educators, was a founding board member of the Technology Institute for Music Educators (TI:ME), and recently retired as the Founding Executive Chair of the Avid Customer Association board. In addition to recently joining the advisory board for the Community Music School of Raleigh, he is currently President of the board for the Bob Moog Foundation and chairs the Alan R. Pearlman (ARP) Foundation.
Today he is writing and producing music full-time, releasing his own music under the “David Mash,” “Mashine Music,” and “Stefan” personas, and you can find his work wherever you normally find digital music (Amazon, Apple Music, ‘Tunes, Spotify, CDBaby, etc…). He’s also producing music for other artists with his long-time collaborator and friend Peter Bell under the name “Bar of 2 Productions.

Meyer, Chris:

Chris Meyer has designed electronic music devices for several companies, including inventing Vector Synthesis. He currently teaches fellow musicians how to use modular synthesizers through his site Learning Modular plus by co-authoring the book Patch & Tweak, and performs a unique brand of cinematic electronic music under the name Alias Zone.

Miller, Bill T:

BTM is a chameleon of sonic exploration… a multi-instrumentalist musician, composer, recording engineer, producer, remixer, filmmaker, photographer, artist, instrument builder, and cat lover. Indulging into mutations of experimental avant space rock noise music since late 1960s, always seeking to go into unknown realms and beyond. Starting out at two years old on toy piano, formed The Electric Onion band playing (guitar & bass & organ) in 1969. Graduated from College for Recording Arts in San Francisco in 1976, becoming a pro recording engineer. First actual hands-on encounter with a synth was an ARP 2600 in synthesizer classes there. Moved to LA and scored a used ARP ODYSSEY MK 1 2800 White (which can be heard on this recording on a sample & hold patch along with a pair of ARP 2600s.) These days surrounded by synths in his Headroom Recording Studios in Boston.

McQuarry, Steve:

Steve McQuarry is an experimental audio and visual performer-composer renowned for his groundbreaking work in experimental music, spatial sound and 2D/3D digital visuals, where he performs and records under his moniker Synsor, on his independent label, Mandala Records. With a focus on electronic soundscapes and digital visuals, Steve’s creations traverse the realms of ambient, drone, noise, and beats. His journey into electronic music began in high school, where an encounter with a neglected synthesizer sparked a lifelong passion. This pivotal moment led Steve to explore and innovate, becoming a pioneer in synthesis.

Padilla, Craig:

Craig Padilla is an internationally celebrated and award-winning electronic music artist. After more than three decades of performing live and recording his own music using many vintage analog and newer digital synthesizers, his style reflects the classic electronic musicians of the past, while finding new sound and music styles that are unique to the true ambient electronic music genre (often found in categories from New Age to Trance to Electronica to Art Rock).

Panic Girl /Bahr, Martha:

Martha Bahr, a.k.a. Panic Girl, is a composer, music producer, and synthesizer sound designer with a passion for electronic music. She has a distinctive collection of both analog and digital gear, including an original ARP 2600, an EMS Synthi A, a Buchla Music Easel, and a Eurorack system. Classically trained in piano, guitar, and singing, she crafts music for broadcasting, film, and advertising, working with clients like Netflix, Moog Music, Spitfire Audio, and the German broadcasting station Bayerischer Rundfunk, among others. Always on the lookout for the extraordinary, her work reflects a deep commitment to innovation and sonic exploration.

Pedersen, Jesper:

Harp & Arp is one of several bands existing in the collective imagination of Katie Buckley and Jesper Pedersen. Together they perform imaginary music on processed harp and synthesizer. The music of Harp & Arp is a created in the moment as a conversation between the two performers. The outcome is on the ambient spectrum with a focus on both tonal structures as well as abstract sonic journeys and textures. Harp & Arp released the EP “The Shortest Day” in 2021 and is working on a full-length album. Harp & Arp was part of Mengi’s curated programme as a concert promoter for the Nordic Culture Fund’s Puls project in 2020 and has performed on Extreme Chill, Sunnuhvoll Music Festival, Nick’s Virtual Garage, Tranum Strandgård Art and Culture Center and the S27 concert series.
Katie Buckley grew up in the US and is the principal harpist with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and also partakes in many other musical adventures in Iceland. She is part of Duo Harpverk and performs regularly with diﬀerent classical ensembles in Iceland. She also works as a session player on diﬀerent recording projects and has recorded and performed with Björk since 2017.
Jesper Pedersen grew up in Denmark and is a composer and multi-instrumentalist performer that creates electronic music and sound art as well as works for acoustic instrumentation. He incorporates field recordings, found sounds and homemade materials in his compositions and the music is otherworldly, composed of improvised sonic journeys that create an enveloping listening experience. He teaches electronic composition and new media at the Iceland University of the Arts and Kópavogur Music School.

Reger, Rick:

Rick Reger was born in Chicago in 1958 and has resided in the Chicago area most of his life. He began playing keyboards in 1971. He creates music using percussion instruments and vintage keyboards and synthesizers, such as the Arp 2600, VCS3, Moog Voyager, Fender Rhodes and Mellotron. He has played in several local Chicago groups, and from 2012-2015, he was a member of The Margots, which included Ken Vandermark and Tim Daisy. The band made two records, Pescado and Sople′, on Okka Disk records. He has also worked periodically as a music journalist, and in the past his work appeared regularly in the Chicago Reader and Chicago Tribune newspapers.

Reising, Brandon:

Brandon Reisig is a multi-instrumentalist, electronic musician, and circuit bender living in the Hocking Hills in southeast Ohio. Using a combination of analog, modular, and digital synthesis, as well as reel to reel tape and his own handmade devices, he creates psychedelic landscapes and shifting stereo imagery.

Roach, Steve:

Steve Roach is an American composer and performer of ambient and electronic music, whose recordings are informed by his impressions of environment, perception, flow and space. His work has been influential in the trance and new-age genres.

Roach has received two Grammy Award nominations for New Age Album of the Year: His 2017 album Spiral Revelation for the 60th Annual Grammy Awards, and 2018’s Molecules of Motion for the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. Roach’s work Dreamtime Return has also been listed on “1,000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die.”

Russell, Collin:

Collin Russell is a composer, sound designer, and educator whose work centers on modular synthesis and through-composed electronic music. His creative output spans film scores, sound libraries, and personal releases across a wide spectrum of genres—from ambient soundscapes to harsh noise. His compositional approach blends traditional harmonic and rhythmic structures with organic modulation techniques, creating a bridge between the familiar and the experimental.

Schlesinger, Drew:

Drew Schlesinger is a world renowned professional synthesist, sound designer and electronica composers who has been involved in electronic music and patch development for synthesizers, effects and software products starting with the Casio CZ-101 in 1984. He’s developed internal presets for over two hundred devices from more than thirty-five manufacturers including Roland, Korg, EMU, Kurzweil, Alesis, Sony, Yamaha, Eventide, Lexicon and Sound Toys. He’s recognized as one of the most prolific and accomplished sonic artists in the MI industry and has created seminal sounds and effects that have been used on countless hit records and music productions.

Slepian, Don:

Don Slepian is an electronic music instrument designer, composer, and performer known for his 1980 release “Sea of Bliss”, the only full-length piece of music composed on the Bell Labs digital synthesizer.

Thirwell, James:

JG Thirlwell is a composer/producer/performer based in Brooklyn, NY. Born in Melbourne, he moved to London in 1978, then relocated to NYC in 1983, where he has been based ever since. As well as his own name, he works under many pseudonyms including Manorexia, Foetus, Xordox, Steroid Maximus, Baby Zizanie, Hydroze Plus, Clint Ruin and Wiseblood.

He has released over thirty albums. If there is a common thread to his varied musical styles, it is a dramatic intensity and an evocative, cinematic quality. Thirlwell has also featured as producer, remixer, collaborator or arranger for a wide variety of artists including Karen O, Noveller, Zola Jesus, Helm, Mivos Quartet, Melvins, Swans, Nine Inch Nails, Lydia Lunch, Coil, Z’s, The The, Simon Hanes, Tony Oursler, Nick Cave and many more.

JG has completed commissions for Kronos Quartet, Bang On A Can, Alarm Will Sound, String Orchestra of Brooklyn, Experiments in Opera, Zephyr Quartet, Great Learning Orchestra, Dither, Jeffrey Zeigler, William Basinski and more. He is also an acclaimed graphic artist. In 2010, he received a fellowship from New York Foundation of the Arts in sound / composition. He has created sound installations which have exhibited in Santarcangelo, Kaliningrad and Gotland, and is a member of the freq_out sound art collective. He performs live with a chamber ensemble, with his multi-channel electro-acoustic “Silver Mantis” project and with his electronic project Xordox.

JG also creates the musical score for the Emmy-winning FX show Archer, and for Adult Swim / Cartoon Network show The Venture Bros, for which he was nominated for an Annie Award.

Torn, David:

David Torn (also, aka “splattercell”) is a composer, texturalist, guitarist, producer & whatnot of actual international stature, renowned for his unique musical voice which seems to span & un-define a range of idioms and styles.

His characterful & compositionally textural work has had material impact & influence on both film scoring — through his own scores, in addition to his creative contributions to scores by Carter Burwell, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Cliff Martinez, Howard Shore, Mark Isham, and others — and, generally, upon contemporary electric, electro-acoustic & electronic music.

In addition to the medium of film scoring, David’s creative contributions have graced & assisted the works of other musical artists-of-note as diverse as David Bowie, k.d. lang, Tim Berne, John Legend, Madonna, Tori Amos, Bill Bruford, Tony Levin, Mick Karn, David Sylvian, Chocolate Genius, Michael Shrieve, Steve Roach, Patrick O’Hearn, Matt Chamberlain, Meshell Ndegeocello and Don Cherry.
